Mission
Statement:
The
purpose of the Atlantic United Soccer Club (Club) is to develop
the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, and loyalty through
the competition in the game of soccer.
Philosophy:
The Club's philosophy is for our youth to have fun while learning
the game of soccer. The Club's goal is to give our players the
sound fundamentals and tactics necessary to become varsity and
college level players.
History:
The Club originated in 1978 with two boys teams that played in
the loosely organized South Shore Amateur Soccer League. In 1980,
the Absecon Soccer Club was founded. By the mid-1980's, the South
Shore Soccer League folded and the Club joined the South Jersey
Soccer League. Around 1989, the Galloway Township Athletic Association
sponsored traveling teams joined the Absecon Soccer Club. Two
years later the name of the Club was changed to the Atlantic United
Soccer Club to reflect its geographic growth. Since 1978, Atlantic
United has evolved into a Club that is now comprised of twelve
boys teams and twelve girls teams.
Affiliations:
The Club is affiliated with the NJ State Youth Soccer Association
(NJYSA), the U.S. Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) and Federation
Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The Club is a member
of the South Jersey Soccer League (SJSL) and the South Jersey
Girls Soccer League (SJGSL).
Status:
The Club received its non-profit status in December 1980 and was
incorporated in March of 1998 as a 501(c)(7) corporation. The
Club provides education and instruction in the sport of soccer
through competition in youth soccer leagues. The Club is supported
by sponsorships, affordable membership fees and parent-run fundraising
events. The registration and sponsorship fees cover the basic
expenses which the Club incurs to place teams in the various leagues.
These expenses primarily include league fees, referees fees, insurance,
field rental, field maintenance, soccer
equipment and field paint.
Demographics:
Atlantic United is an "open-club" which means it accepts
teams and players from all communities. While our players mostly
come from Galloway Township and the Cities of Absecon and Port
Republic, serious players from over twelve neighboring communities
in Atlantic, Cape May and Ocean Counties also play on Atlantic
United teams.
Ages:
The Club fields competitive boys and girls teams year-around in
the following age groups:
Under 9
up to Under 19
Mininum
Coaching Requirements:
All new coaches are required to successfully complete the NJYSA
coaching license, Grade "F" or higher course, complete
a NJYSA Volunteer Disclosure Statement and submit to a New Jersey
State Police criminal history information check.
Club Administration:
The Executive Committee is the Club's primary policy-making and
administrative body in accordance with the Club By-laws. The Executive
Committee consists of Club Officers and Registered Head Coaches
or their appointed representatives of each team. Executive Committee
monthly meetings are opened to parents and guardians of registered
players.
Club Officers:
Under the by-laws, Club officers include President, Vice-President,
Secretary, Treasurer, Boy's and Girl's Club Representatives. Officers
are elected annually.
FieldQuest:
Atlantic United Soccer Club is one of the largest, fastest growing
clubs in South Jersey, with over 350 players on 24 teams. Our
field resources are terribly limited. As a result, we do not have
enough practice fields or game fields. The municipalities and
school districts that have cooperated with the Club have done
their best, but due to competing interests, they can no longer
guarantee that they will be able to provide enough fields for
the Club's present and future needs. After years of searching
for alternatives, we have concluded our Club needs its own field
complex. The Club's five-year goal is to raise $200,000 through
corporate sponsorships, grants and internal fundraising activities
to fund a 30 acre soccer complex that will accommodate four full-sided
and four small-sided soccer specific fields, along with a field
house and snack bar. The complex will be used to hold tournaments,
Club functions, community activities, etc.
Sponsors:
The following businesses have provided financial support and sponsorship
to Atlantic United Soccer Club teams: AK Pharma, Bally's Park
Place, Cape Savings Bank, Commerce Bank, Cosimos Café,

Diner, Glenn Insurance, Gourmet Restaurant, Irish Pub, Jersey
